The rest of my family probably wouldn't agree with me as they are actually football fans, but in addition to enjoying the commercials, the Super Bowl is just an excuse for me to make festive (and mostly unhealthy) food. The boys wanted to have nachos so David did those up. Monroe had a recipe from his teachers for a cracker snack mix so he and I made that together. Conway, my little baker, decided that the best dessert choice for the Super Bowl was...Apple Tarte Tatin? Yep! It wasn't an obvious dessert choice for the occasion, but it was delicious. And Parker was too into the actual game to take part in the cooking, but he did chip in on the eating.

Seabrook for a Change of Scenery
We decided to head to Seabrook on the Washington coast for a little change of scenery. The days and weeks seem to blend together right now so it was nice to at least be in a different location. The boys still did virtual school and the weather was a bit wetter than we'd hoped, but we still got to enjoy the beach, the ice cream shop, and the hot tub.

Gingerbread Houses
Our initial attempt at constructing "gingerbread" houses out of graham crackers started out fun and ended with collapsed houses and tears, which we drowned in hot chocolate, mini marshmallows, and candy canes. Don't let the smiles mislead you. They're only smiling because they were allowed to consume sugar. But we didn't give up. Keep scrolling to find attempt number two...
I did a little bit of research (aka I phoned a friend from Monroe's preschool class whose mother use to teach classes on making gingerbread houses) and came back with a new plan to make a real gingerbread house from scratch. This time we ended with a cute little house and no tears. Success!

Happy New Year!
Goodbye 2020! May the year ahead bring with it more love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. May an abundance of these fruits of the spirit be produced in us. Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas!
Nothing is "normal" these days...except the sheer joy of waking up on Christmas morning in a house that Santa has visited. We can still find joy. And we remain eternally grateful for the Messiah's birth. Merry Christmas!
{Monroe's note to Santa: "Uh, hey dude. I love you Santa."}
P.S. Merry Christmas 2019
